Hall of Fame

Icon-HOFThe Center Grove Alumni and Friends Hall of Fame will recognize graduates and community members for their professional achievements and personal contributions to improve the lives of others and society. Their public example will hopefully serve to inspire future graduates to perform and serve in the same spirit.

Class of 2024

Dr. Helen B. Barnes

Helen-BarnesDr. Barnes was one of five founding doctors of Johnson Memorial Hospital in 1946. She was also one of five members elected to Center Grove’s first school board. She was committed to attracting top-notch teachers and coaches to enhance the reputation of Center Grove schools in a growing community.

Jeff Beck

Jeff-BeckMr. Beck is a 1967 graduate of Center Grove High School and is retired from Eli Lilly. He is passionate about preserving the history of Center Grove and Johnson County. In 2004 he wrote a book titled “Center Grove: Unveiling the Past,” which provides a historical look at our school corporation and the community.

Major General R. Martin Umbarger

Martin-UmbargerGen. Umbarger is the past adjutant general of Indiana, having led the Indiana Army and Air National Guard. He is also president and chief executive officer of Roy Umbarger and Sons, Inc., an agricultural wholesale and retail business located in Bargersville. He has received numerous military awards and has been active in his community with numerous organizations.

How to Nominate Someone

Eligibility

  • The nominee must have graduated from Center High School at least 10 years ago or have been a resident of the Center Grove community for a continuous period of at least 10 years, or have made substantial contributions to the community.

  • The nominee must have a special achievement in their area of specialty, and/or received honors, awards or other recognition on a local, regional, national or international level.

  • The nominee must have demonstrated leadership, character and service to society in general or to a specific segment of society.

  • Nominations for posthumous awards will be accepted.

Application

Nominations received by June 1 will be considered for the current year’s induction.
Applications received after June 1 will be considered for the following year.

Selection

The selection committee will meet and vote on nominees. Notifications will be made in June, with a celebration to be held in the fall. Nominees will be considered for three years if not chosen the first year of submission. All nomination forms are kept on file for those three years, so there will be no need to resubmit the application.
